How to install Pcb Terminal Block ?


2. PCB Terminal Block Types

Before installation, we need to identify the terminal block types:

  • Screw Terminal Blocks – Require torque-controlled tightening

3. Manufacturing & Installation Process

Step 1: PCB Design and  Preparation

  • Footprint Design:

    • Ensure pad size matches terminal block pitch (such as 2.5mm,3.81mm,7.5mm,7.62mm,10.16mm,5.08mm, 3.5mm)etc

    • Includes mounting holes for screw-type blocks (M2.5/M3 /M3.5/M4 screws)

  • Material Selection:

    • PA66 ,UL94V-0  (standard) or high-Tg materials for high-temperature applications

Step 2: Solder Paste Application

  • Stencil Printing:

    • Use laser-cut stencils (0.1–0.15mm thickness)

    • Apply SAC305 lead-free solder paste

Step 3: Component Placement

  • Pick-and-Place Machine:

    • Position terminal blocks with ≤0.1mm accuracy

    • Ensure polarity alignment (if applicable)

Step 4: Reflow Soldering

  • Temperature Profile:

    • Preheat: 150–180°C (60–90 sec)

    • Reflow Peak: 240–250°C (10–20 sec)

    • Cooling Rate: <4°C/sec

  • Critical Check:

    • Avoid tombstoning (uneven solder melting)

Step 5: Mechanical Mounting (If Required)

  • Screw Terminal Blocks:

    • Torque: 0.5–0.6 N·m for M3 screws

    • Use thread-locking adhesive for vibration resistance

  • Snap-On Blocks:

    • Align with PCB notches and press firmly

Step 6: Cleaning & Inspection

  • Post-Solder Cleaning:

    • Remove flux residues with IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol)

  • Quality Checks:

    • Automated Optical Inspection (AOI): Verifies solder joint integrity

    • Pull Test: Ensures >5N retention force

Step 7: Conductor Termination

  • Wire Insertion:

    • Stranded Wires: Use ferrules (0.5–6mm²)

    • Solid Wires: Strip 7–10mm insulation

  • Clamping:

    • Spring Terminals: Press lever, insert wire, release

    • Screw Terminals: Tighten to specified torque

Step 8: Final Testing

  • Continuity Test: Verify electrical connectivity

  • Hi-Pot Test: 500V AC for 1 min (insulation check)

  • Vibration Test: 5–500Hz sweep (IEC 60068-2-6)
